Receiving Your Lo-Glow Light Kit - Your Lo-Glow light kit comes to you via USPS in a bubble mailer. Open and inspect the contents of the mailer. Contact Lo-Glow LLC through our website if the kit has experienced any damage during shipping.
Remove Your Existing Badge -The emblems are held on with double sided tape. To ease removal you can heat them with a heat gun or a hairdryer. Always pay close attention to the paint so it won't overheat and bubble it up. If the badge has plastic alignment studs you have to pull it straight off. Not up or down. Check to make sure any nuts holding the studs to the grill or tailgate are removed first. If you choose to try and pry it off make sure you protect the paint and don't pry too hard. Applying electrical tape to the body near the badge can aid in the protection of the paint
Clean the Surface -Once the badge is removed you must clean off any of the original adhesive from the vehicle. It is sometimes useful to use WD-40 to help in the cleaning process.
After all (or most) of the adhesive has been removed, use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface.
Remove the Pins from Your Badge
The pins that extend off the mounting surface of your vehicles badge must be removed, flush to the surface. A rotary tool such as a Dremel is useful for this.
Make sure the rear surface of your vehicles badge is free of any dirt or old adhesive. Wipe with rubbing alcohol as a final step in the badge preparation.
Choose Your Wiring Path - Plan ahead and decide how you will connect your Lo-Glow to the vehicles wiring harness. If the wire is to run through body panels or tailgate, it is helpful to use a guide. In this step, we used a piece of household wiring to 'fish' the wires through the tailgate. Leave this in place until you are ready to pull the wires through.
Secure Lo-Glow to Your Vehicle -Pull the wires from the Lo-Glow kit through the body parts of the vehicle (if this is the wiring path you have chosen) using the guide. Make sure to leave enough wire to allow access to the back of the Lo-Glow to remove the adhesive backing.
Next, peel off the backing. Use scissors to cut the backing from the edge to the wire hole.
Once the backing is removed, pull the wires through so the Lo-Glow is almost touching the vehicle. Level the Lo-glow and place it where the badge once was.
Connect to Your Vehicle's Wiring -Gain access to your vehicle's wire harness by removing the tail light or headlight body. On some models, the wires may be accessed without this removal.
Find the running light or parking light wire (your choice) you wish to connect to. A good trick here is to drive a small pin into the jacket of one wire. Turn on your parking lights (or headlights) and use a volt meter to see if you have the correct wire. Turn off your lights.
Make the connections using the 'No-Splice' connectors supplied in the installation kit (available on our website as a separate item)
Route the wire back to the point you will make the connection to the Lo-Glow kit.
Attach the 3M Connectors (Include in the Installation Kit)-
Place a piece of heat-shrink tube on the wires before attaching the connectors. Attach the 3M bullet style connectors supplied in the installation kit to the ends of the wires (4). Make sure you cut any excess length of wire before attaching the connectors.
After making the crimp connections for attaching the connectors, pull up the heat-shrink tube over the connector (plastic part). Apply heat to the tubing until the heat-shrink makes a secure seal around the wire and connector.
Finally, make the connections from your vehicle's wire harness to the Lo-Glow by snapping the male pins into the female connector terminals.
Test and Place Badge on Lo-Glow -Turn on your lights (parking or head lights) and make sure your wiring connections are secure. The Lo-Glow should be on at this point.
Remove the adhesive backing from the front of the Lo-Glow.
Place the OEM badge you have prepared onto the Lo-Glow. Make sure the badge is level and centered.
Re-attach any light housing you removed during the connection to the vehicle's wire harness.
Make sure all wires are tucked away and secure. Do not allow wires to rest on any sharp edges as this will cause a short in the future.
